Small businesses can benefit from annoying sales and motivation quotes

by Stephen Craine

Motivational sales quotes and phrases can be a great way for small business owners to pick up techniques and skills that will help them to grow their revenue and profits.

You will have heard and seen quotes, motivating statements, phrases, and mantras, which are used by speakers, authors, and trainers. They can be really annoying because of the way they are overused or presented as some kind of magic mantra. There may be the odd one that has caught your attention and lodged in your memory, either because you thought it was good or because it really annoyed you and you can’t get it out of your head.

On their own these one liners are at best useless and at worst annoying. It’s only when you add some explanation on how to put the quote into action, and in what situations it can be used, that you can start to see their value and potential.

Take for example the well used saying: Look for a win-win situation.

This isn’t just a phrase made up for a speech or presentation. It’s a small line that represents a big technique that your small business could benefit from using. Win-Win is an outcome of a sale or a negotiation. It’s where you use sales techniques and skills to make an agreement where both your small business and the customer benefit. Compare this to a sales process where the seller constantly tries to gain the upper hand, close the customer without meeting all their needs, or sell a service or product that is totally inappropriate but will get them a sale.

By looking for, and finding, a win-win situation you will gain a happy customer that will recommend you to others and give you repeat business. Looking for a win-win situation starts with an attitude not a technique. It’s the sales angle that your small business assumes in your approach to selling to new and existing customers. You start with the objective of finding the best product or service for your customer, at a price and the right terms and conditions to give your business a fair return. Once you have the win-win approach you can start to put the right sales techniques into your selling process.

That’s just one example of reframing our viewpoint on sales and motivation quotes. Now, every time you see or hear a motivational quote, a well used business phrase, a motivator, or a quick sales tip, don’t just ignore it. Think about its value and look for a deeper meaning that could possibly benefit our small business growth plans.
